Poet & Author
Why I Love Poetry
Poetry is love for the world in words
Poetry makes startling connections between things
Like water running downhill, poetry finds the quickest route
through language
Poetry has silence in it, and breath
Poetry comes from the body, of which the mind is only a part
Poetry draws attention
Poetry says things that can’t be said another way
Poetry sings
No matter how sad or dark its subject,
poetry’s rhythms and images transform
Poetry wants to be written and doesn’t care who writes it
Even when we fail to value it, poetry doesn’t die, but goes on
sending green spears up through the pavement
Poetry is uncontrollable
Poetry is not for sale
Poetry is the best way of saying our long goodbye
