Did you know that camels got their start in what is now the American Midwest? Or that the forests of the Northeast once crawled with millipedes six feet long? Or that there are many new species of dinosaurs still being dug up, many of them in this country?
My next book will be an illustrated collection of poems and nonfiction celebrating marvelous animals that have gone extinct in what is now the United States, from half a billion years ago into the 21st century.  I’m calling it:  Extinct America!
